Getting There
There are no flights to El Nido, Palawan, but you can fly in via the Puerto Princesa International Airport. From there, you can either take the shuttle van (5 hours travel time) or a bus (6 ½ hours travel time) to the El Nido Terminal. From the terminal, you can then take a tricycle ride to your hotel.
Money Matters
El Nido hotels accept USD, but a majority of the other local establishments and transportation services accept Philippine Peso for transactions. ATM machines are available, however it is advisable to withdraw before you arrive in El Nido. Hotel accommodations in the island starts at USD 25 per night while upscale hotels cost around USD 100 and up per night. Meals start from USD 2, which already includes rice.
Weather
The weather in El Nido, Palawan is tropical. The best time to go is from November to January when the climate is colder but the island can get a little bit crowded. From February to May, the season is hotter so it is a great time to lounge in the beach, although brace yourself for a bigger crowd. Off peak season is from June to October, so accommodation is cheaper, but rainy weather is expected during this period.
Getting Around
You can go to various mainland attractions by riding a tricycle that will cost you around USD 1 for a one-way trip. The beaches, lagoons, and islands are near to each other and can mostly be reached via boats.
Food
A popular dish in El Nido is Bulalo – bone marrow soup with vegetables and beef meat. You can also enjoy other local dishes such as caldereta, sinigang, adobo, and BBQ. There are also restaurants that offer other cuisines such as Asian, Western, etc.
