Myanmar Weather – Kengtung
Kengtung is the largest, most mountainous, and the most easterly district of Myanmar’s Shan state. The district has a warm and temperate climate that gets more rain during the summer, classified as Cwa under the Koppen-Geiger. It has an average annual temperature of 23.1 degrees Celsius (73.6 degrees Fahrenheit) and average rainfall and precipitation of 1,154 mm.
The district gets its lowest minimum temperature of 9.7 degrees Celsius (49.5 degrees Fahrenheit) in January and the highest maximum temperature of 33.3 degrees Celsius (91.9 degrees Fahrenheit) in April. Average minimum temperatures in Kengtung range from 9.7 degrees Celsius (49.5 degrees Fahrenheit) to 22.1 degrees Celsius (71.8 degrees Fahrenheit), while average maximum temperatures can range from 25.3 degrees Celsius (52.2 degrees Fahrenheit) to 33.3 degrees Celsius (91.9 degrees Fahrenheit).
For the most part, Myanmar lies between the Tropic of Cancer and the Equator — so parts of the country are included in Asia’s monsoon region. The country’s coastal regions experience over 5,000 mm of rain with an average maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius (89.6 degrees Fahrenheit) annually. The delta region, on the other hand, experiences around 2,500 mm of rain and the same temperatures as that of the coastal region. The country’s dry zones experience less than 1,000 mm of rain annually, while the northern regions are considered the coolest — experiencing average temperatures of 21 degrees Celsius (70 degrees Fahrenheit).
Kengtung’s climate can be divided into two: wet and dry seasons.
Wet season: Kengtung experiences its wet season during the months of May to October, getting around 100 to 230 mm of rain, with August considered as the wettest month. During this time minimum temperatures can range from 18.6 degrees Celsius (65.5 degrees Fahrenheit) to 22.1 degrees Celsius (71.8 degrees Fahrenheit), while maximum temperatures range from 29.2 degrees Celsius (84.6 degrees Fahrenheit) to 32.5 degrees Celsius (90.5 degrees Fahrenheit).
Dry season: Kengtung experiences its dry season during the months of November to April when it gets around 8 to 55 mm of rain, with January considered as the driest month. During this time, average minimum temperatures range from 9.7 degrees Celsius (49.5 degrees Fahrenheit) to 17.6 degrees Celsius (63.7 degrees Fahrenheit). Average maximum temperatures, on the other hand, range from 25.3 degrees Celsius (77.5 degrees Fahrenheit) to 33.3 degrees Celsius (91.9 degrees Fahrenheit).
Best Time to Go
The best time to visit Kengtung is during the months of January to February or April to June. The former is considered as the peak season thanks to the perfect weather and temperatures, while the latter is also an excellent time to visit as the weather and moderate humidity is conducive to enjoy the outdoors.
