Bhutan Weather – Wangdue Phodrang
Wangdue Phodrang is a district found in central Bhutan. It’s bordered by Dagana and Tsirang districts to the south, Tongsa district in the east, Thimphu and Punakha districts in the west, and Gasa and a small Tibet district in the north. Just like most of the country, it has a warm and temperate climate with summers getting more rainfall. Its climate is classified as Cwa by the Koppen-Geiger system. The district has an average annual temperature of 18.1 degrees Celsius (64.58 degrees Fahrenheit) and sees an average rainfall and precipitation of 3,080 mm.
The district gets its lowest minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit) in January and the highest maximum temperature of 26.6 degrees Celsius (79.9 degrees Fahrenheit) in July. Average minimum temperatures in Wangdue Phodrang range from 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit) to 19.6 degrees Celsius (67.3 degrees Fahrenheit), while average maximum temperatures can range from 16.8 degrees Celsius (62.2 degrees Fahrenheit) to 26.6 degrees Celsius (79.9 degrees Fahrenheit).
Bhutan generally has five distinct seasons in a year, although it can also depend on the area. The Indian summer monsoon, which could mean rains in the western region and rains plus humidity in the southern region, begins from late June to late September and is mostly experienced in the country’s southern border region. The country’s dry spring starts in early March until mid-April. Summer follows and lasts until late June, which also brings summer rains and can be more monsoon-like in the southwest border region. Autumn — characterised by bright, sunny days and early snowfall for the mountainous regions occurs from late September or early October to late November. And lastly, winter sets in from late November until March, which brings frost and snowfall, and even gale-force winds in higher elevations.

Wet season: Wangdue Phodrang experiences its wet season in the months of April to October, when average rainfall ranges from 124 mm to 755 mm, with July considered as the wettest month. During these months, average minimum temperatures can range from 13.7 degrees Celsius (56.7 degrees Fahrenheit) to 19.6 degrees Celsius (67.3 degrees Fahrenheit), while average maximum temperatures range from 24.4 degrees Celsius (75.9 degrees Fahrenheit) to 26.6 degrees Celsius (79.9 degrees Fahrenheit).
Dry season: Wangdue Phodrang’s dry season runs from November to March, when average rainfall ranges from 7 mm to 69 mm, with December getting the least amount of rainfall. Average minimum temperatures can range from 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit) to 10.5 degrees Celsius (50.9 degrees Fahrenheit), while average maximum temperatures range from 16.8 degrees Celsius (62.2 degrees Fahrenheit) to 22.1 degrees Celsius (71.8 degrees Fahrenheit).
Best Time to Go
The best time to visit Wangdue Phodrang is in October when the weather is nice and sultry, making it a good time to explore the district. The months of April to September is okay for exploration as well, thanks to the average humidity and precipitation.
