Bolaven Plateau
Bolaven Plateau is located in the bottom of a crater of a volcano, and is one of the most gorgeous destinations in the southern part of Laos. The place is popular for its stunning waterfalls, rainforests, and delicious coffee.
The place has breathtaking sceneries such as luxurious jungles, magnificent waterfalls, exquisite ethnic villages, and cool climate. Coffee bean plantations are everywhere and surprisingly, the coffee is lovely and aromatic.
Bolaven Plateau is an exceptional beauty with its marvelous atmosphere. The people around are welcoming and harmonious, with a very interesting culture. Their main source of livelihood is coffee production. The place is more enjoyable to explore using motorbikes, which makes it easier to get into different waterfall attractions such as the Tad Lo, Tat Fang, Tad Soung, and Tad Hang.
Attractions
Tad Lo is one of the most visited attractions in Bolaven Plateau. It is located in the province of Salavan, 2 kilometres away from the bus stop. Tad Lo offers 3 gorgeous waterfalls. The first one is beside the village wherein you can stay for a while to rest, the second and third one are kilometres away upstream.
Getting There
The main entrance to Bolaven Plateau is the Pakse International Airport. From there, you can take a bus ride from the Southern Bus Terminal to Bolaven Plateau or you can also rent a scooter with or without a driver from Pakse.
Money Matters
Bolaven Plateau can accept US Dollars for expensive transactions such as airfare and hotel bookings, but Laotian Kip (LAK) is the main currency used in the destination. The average hotel costs around USD 35.70 per night and meals are around USD 3.04 per person.
Weather
Bolaven Plateau has a tropical-monsoon environment because of the abundant rainforests and waterfalls in the vicinity. The best time of the year to visit the place is from November to December when the place is still in good bloom, however the climate is also the coldest during these months. January to May are the dry season wherein most of the roads are dusty. June to October are monsoon seasons and the streets are muddy.
Food
Coffee is one of the best delicacies in Bolaven Plateau. Noodle dishes are very popular, as well as spring rolls and sticky rice meals. Most restaurants serve these and Western cuisine can hardly be found.
Bolaven Plateau is a waterfall wonderland where you can see and explore the best waterfalls in Laos. The environment is cold and very relaxing, the natural scenery makes a beautiful backdrop for photos, and you can also indulge and take a swim in the water. At the same time, the place offers sumptuous meals at very affordable prices.
