Magellan’s Cross
Magellan’s Cross is a must-see historical and religious landmark for tourists exploring the city of Cebu.
Magellan’s Cross is a big crucifix brought and planted by the Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan when he arrived at Mactan, Cebu in 1521. Today, the original cross is said to be encased inside a wooden cross found in the center of a chapel beside the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño – and this cross along with the paintings inside the chapel that depicts Magellan’s arrival in Cebu make an amazing sight for tourists. The cross is an important relic as it symbolizes the introduction of the Catholic Religion to the country.
