Musmeah Yeshua Synagogue
Visit the only Jewish house in Myanmar — the Musmeah Yeshua Synagogue.
The Musmeah Yeshua Synagogue can be found in the busy 26th Street in the centre of Yangon. It is currently the only Jewish house in the country and was built in the 1890s to serve more than 2,500 Jews who migrated into the country from the Middle East. Most of the Jews were then forced to escape and migrate into other countries after the Japanese occupation of the country in World War II.
To date, there are only about 20 Jews living in Yangon, but the Synagogue remains to be a sight to behold with its picturesque colonial-style and blue coloured facade. Visitors would also love the serene and spacious high ceiling and graceful columns inside. Another thing worth noting is the peaceful co-existence of the Burmese, Hindus, and Muslims in the Synagogue’s vicinity.
