Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary
A habitat for elephants, the mission of the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary is to help prevent the decline of the elephant population.
The Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary is a place where you can get up close and personal with elephants and see them play and interact with one another. It is a sanctuary where rescued elephants are taken cared of.
Location
Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary is located in Lanchang, Pahang. It is about 160 kilometres away from Kuala Lumpur.
Opening Days and Hours
Visiting hours is from Monday to Thursday from 12:00 to 16:45, and Friday from 14:00 to 16:45. During weekends and public holidays, visiting hours are extended from 10:00 to 16:45.
Entry Fee and Bookings
No entrance fees are required to enter the sanctuary but you can give a donation to support it.
How to Get There
Accessible by road, it takes about 2 to 2.5 hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur via Karak Highway. From Kuala Lumpur, take the Karak Highway heading towards Lanchang District, passing Karak Village en route. You will also pass an Orang Asli (local tribe) settlement and at the end of that road, you will reach the Kuala Gandah Elephant Orphanage Sanctuary.

It is best to go during the weekdays. The sanctuary tends to get crowded during weekends and public holidays such as Chinese New Year or school breaks.
Activities
Before 14:30, you can watch the elephants and even feed baby elephants. After that, you can bathe with the elephants, ride them, and watch a short elephant show at the sanctuary.

There is only a small cafe available in the sanctuary.

Besides the elephant sanctuary, you can also visit Deerland Park at Lanchang, which is about a 10-minute drive away from Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary.

As the sanctuary is in a rather remote location, the closest place to stay is in Temerloh, which has budget to mid-range hotels.
Good to Know
You might want to consider having an early lunch to avoid the crowd at the only cafe in the sanctuary. Moreover, an early lunch is also good so that you will be on time to catch the 13:30 video show.
