Tha Kaek is known for its impressive Karst limestone mountains that are now turned into a new tourist attraction — more than 100 climbs that cater to every climber have been developed. There is a climb for every rock climbing enthusiast out there — both 5.8 to 5.13 climb for traditional climbers, and the higher ones for more experienced climbers feature wide selections of technical routes. With the place’s scenic surroundings, exciting routes to choose from, accessible lodging and decent food places, one can say that Tha Kaek is definitely a must visit for climbing enthusiasts.

Opening Days and Hours

Rock Climbing at Tha Kaek can be experienced through Green Climbers Home, which is open 24-hours every day.  

 

Entry Fee and Bookings

Tourists are advised to book ahead to confirm a slot. Prices vary depending on the kind of climb you want to experience. Level One and Two cost between LAK 160,000 to 1,030,000 (USD 20 to 124). Level Three and Four climbs cost from LAK 600,000 to 1,000,000 (USD 72 – 120).

 

How to Get There

  • If you’re coming from Vientiane, take a 6-hour bus ride to Tha Kaek.
  • If coming from Pakse, board a bus to Tha Kaek.
  • From the bus station, take a tuk-tuk to Green Climbers Home.

Time to Spend

Prepare to spend at least half day rock climbing. However, most climbers choose to stay for one full day.

 


Popularity and Best Time to Go

If you’re planning to join the rock climbing activities, the best time to go to Tha Kaek is between November to March — Laos’ dry, cooler season — and during the hot season which starts from March to May.
