Gili Meno

Gili Meno, better known as the 'honeymoon island,' is the smallest and least developed of all the Gili Islands.

Gili Meno attracts couples who want to get away from the crowds as well as families who are looking for a quiet beach holiday. Gili Meno sits between Gili Trawangan and Gili Air and everyone will love snorkeling in its crystal clear waters.

Aside from snorkeling and swimming, however, not much else can be done on Gili Meno. If this doesn’t bother you or if you deliberately want to get away from it all then this is a good spot to come to. Other activities here include lounging on the beach with a good book, practicing yoga, or simply taking in the glorious sunsets and local flora and fauna. There is little nightlife here to speak of so if you are looking for a party you would be better off heading for Gili Trawangan.

Attractions

Gili Meno really doesn’t have much in the way of attractions. The main reason to come here is to enjoy the white sand beaches that run all around the island or the waters wherein you can swim and snorkel. The sea off the beach is clear and you will get to see a range of aquatic life such as turtles, sharks, and rays, and also some pretty corals. One of the main attractions on the island is the Bird Park but note that it is not very large and the birds are kept in cages.

Getting There

You can get to Gili Meno from other neighbouring Gili islands, Bali, or Lombok using public ferries and fast private boats. Boats from Bali leave from Sanur or Padang Bai. Boats from Lombok leave from Senggigi or Bangsal.

Getting Around

When it comes to getting around Gili Meno you can either walk or rent a bicycle. There are no cars on the island and it is also not very large, so there is nowhere really to walk to other than around the island to check out some of the beaches on the other side. Gili Meno is shaped like a large peanut and the terrain is easy if you want to see the whole of the island during your visit.

Food

Gili Meno doesn’t have a huge number of food options but you will find some restaurants, bars, and cafes scattered around the island. Most of these have a focus on Indonesian classics but you will also find some Western fare of differing levels of authenticity. The bars are by far the highlight and many of these provide a nice place to sit and watch the sunset with a drink.

Gili Meno is a great choice if you want to be away from the crowds. Travelers with children will find much to enjoy here as you can spend your days playing on the sand and swimming in the sea without having to worry about large waves and strong currents. If you don’t want much in the way of adventure activities then this is a good place to spend a few laid back days enjoying the Indonesian weather and the delightful views and landscape.
