The laid-back seaside town of Kep is enchanted with a small crescent white sandy beach near the tip of the Kep Peninsula, the Kep Beach.
Kep Beach is a favourite spot for Cambodian families and foreign visitors who wish to enjoy the sun and sea breeze. Hammocks are readily available for you to laze around on a relaxing afternoon, and tubes can be rented for you to relax and float on the cooling sea water. Complete your day with a spectacular sunset over the ocean’s horizon in Kep Beach.
The beach is about 10 kilometres south of Kep town and 30 kilometres southeast of Kampot town. It is also located approximately 109 kilometres west of the Sihanoukville International Airport.
Opening Days and Hours
Kep Beach is open for everyone every day.
Entry Fee and Bookings
Pedestrians, tuk-tuk, and motocycle are free to enter the beach. Heavier vehicles, such as cars and vans, need to pay an admission fee of USD 0.50 to 1.50 to drive up to the beach.
How to Get There
Taking a bus from Kampot will take about 20 to 40 minutes, and cost USD 2 to 3. Otherwise, you can also hire a tuk-tuk or motorcycle for a day rate of USD 4 to 8. The beach is about 15 minutes from Kep town on tuk-tuk or motorcycle. If you are coming from the Sihanoukville International Airport, you should expect to spend 2 hours on the road in a bus or minibus.
Kep Beach is a good place to visit for families with children, as the water is not too deep. It is also perfect for travelers who want to enjoy sunbathing and a serene day out on the beach.
Time to Spend
2 to 4 hours are sufficient to spend on the beach as it is relatively small.
Popularity and Best Time to Go
Local and foreign visitors crowd the beach during the weekends, so weekdays are best if you want a calmer beach. The tropical midday heat can be daunting, so the best time to visit is in the morning or just before sunset.
A number of restaurants and street food stalls can be found next to the beach within walking distance. If you are craving for some fresh seafood, the famous crab market is just a 10-minute tuk-tuk ride away and costs about USD 1.
- Kep Crab Market: A couple of kilometres away from the beach, the crab market can be reached on foot within 20 minutes or 10 minutes on a tuk-tuk ride.
- Kep Crab Statue: It is 700 metres away, and visitors can walk to the statue in less 10 minutes.
- The Rabbit Island: You will need to hop on a boat ride to get to this beautiful island, which is about 8 kilometres opposite of Kep Beach.
You can find 3 to 4-star hotels directly overlooking the beach. If you are traveling on a budget, affordable budget to mid-range guesthouses or hotels can be found in the nearby Kep town. Luxury hotels and resorts are available too.
