Buddha Dordenma
Erected on a site commonly called as Kuensel Phodrang, Buddha Dordenma -- a towering attraction at 162 feet tall -- stands as evidence to the tenacious spirit of the people of Bhutan.
Buddha Dordenma is a fulfillment of the prophecy of the 20th-century yogi Sonam Zangpo that a gigantic Buddha would be built in the forest of Thimpu — the realisation of this vision was pursued tenaciously to coincide with the 60th Anniversary of the Fourth King Jingme Singye Wangchuk. The Buddha is situated on a hilltop in the capital city of Bhutan and is surrounded by 943.4 acres of preserved forest area. The trek to the place is one that is refreshing and relaxing with its cool and friendly breeze. Just below the Buddha site is a 3.5 kilometre bike trail that has become a welcome treat for those who are sporty and those who just would like to commune with nature.
